About Kristen!

So, I have a tendency to talk, and write, too much, so I'll try to give you a window into my life, but not be long winded ;-)

I've done crafts as long as I can remember and I love doing pretty much anything I can get my hands on! My mom taught me to knit when I was young, but I caught on to crocheting better because it was easier. But then, I got bored with both because all I could make was squares haha.

I got into sewing in middle school Home Ec. class. I hand sewed a stuffed duck one year, and machine sewing a drawstring backpack the next (both of which I still have). I also took the high school sewing class, "Creative Apparel," twice - the second time as an "Advanced" course, meaning I did an extra notebook of fashion/fabric info and stuff. I made a halter top and a dress, both of which I still have but neither of them do I wear haha. Neither of them fit right :-\

The winter break of my sophomore year of college, I wasn't working very many hours and got really bored. So, I asked my mom to teach me how to knit hats. I started looking up lots of different things to knit and soon after, I decided I was going to try to sell them. I sold a few things before I officially opened up my business in October 2010.

I've expanded my store quite a bit, with crocheted items, hair accessories, bags, and especially jewelry, which I've really gotten into. Jewelry is faster to turn out a single piece than a hat, so it's easier for me to do outside of class while I'm at school :) But I knit and crochet in class, and I still enjoy them.

I also love scrapbooking and photography. I want to scrapbook cards to sell, as well as make my photography into cards, and just prints that people can buy. Eventually. My list of things to bring into the store is quite long haha.

In college, graduating May 2012 from a state University that was my top choice and the only college I actually applied to because I got in on early admission and since it was my top choice, didn't bother applying anywhere else :) I'm majoring in Creative Writing because for as long as I can remember, I've wanted to be an author (which is why the blog background is books). I'm also minoring in Psychology because I've always thought it was interesting and I'm hoping I can use it in my writing as well as maybe a real job to pay the bills. My dream has always been to become a famous author under a pen name so I can still go to the grocery store without getting mobbed, and to donate most of my money to causes I support because I don't need or want a million dollar home.

Dance is also a huge part of my life. It's something I've been doing since I was a kid, and the only type of dance I've done that I didn't like very much was Modern - nothing against it, but I had a bad teacher and it wasn't really my cup of tea. For classes, I've done ballet, jazz, hip hop and tap. I've taken a few classes in swing and salsa, and been to many contra dances and I love it all!

Well, I think that's a good sized window into my life :) I think it's important for small businesses to build a relationship with their customers, so I'm open about pretty much everything in my life :)
